Cathy Card Sterling, Vice President – Cathy Sterling has spent 30 years in development and management of arts, education, social service and environmental organizations. She brings to Schultz & Williams a strong and extensive range of skills that includes strategic planning, institutional advancement, managing during transition and results-oriented communication. Her areas of focus include capital campaign planning and implementation, major gifts fundraising, communications, board-building and strategic planning.

Building on her experience, Cathy now heads S&W’s Washington, DC office. Since joining the firm, Cathy has worked with numerous clients, helping them design their ongoing development programs as well as plan and launch their capital campaigns, creating successful solicitation strategies for campaign leadership and major donors. She has also served as interim development staff both during and after capital campaigns. Her clients include American Association of Museums, The Potomac School, The Phillips Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Meals On Wheels Association of America Foundation, Trust for the National Mall, Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center (MD), Frick Art & Historical Center (Pittsburgh), Council for Excellence in Government, The Nature Conservancy, The Heinz Center, ARCH Development Corporation, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

Prior to joining S&W, Cathy served as Vice President for Development at WETA, the flagship public broadcasting station in Washington, DC, where she helped plan and implement WETA’s Campaign for the New Century and advance the organization’s Board and volunteer leadership. She has also held development positions with several museums in the Washington, DC region.

Cathy is a former member of the Board of Trustees of Alexandria Country Day School and a former advisor to The Fund for Arts and Culture in Central and Eastern Europe. She speaks widely on fundraising topics and was a Master Teacher within the national Public Broadcasting System. She has conducted seminars in Russia, sponsored by The Fund for Arts and Culture, on public sector management and fundraising issues. Cathy holds a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, Norton, Massachusetts and an MBA in marketing and arts management from American University. She attended The International School of Brussels and is a graduate of The Hockaday School, Dallas, Texas.
