Campaign Planning (Feasibility) Studies
By Michelle Eisenberg, Consultant

A campaign planning study is often called a feasibility study because a key element is testing dollar potential. But the process of reviewing your case for support, prospect pool, campaign leadership and organizational capacity also creates a blueprint for your campaign including all the parameters – goal, structure, messaging, etc. – that are essential to success.

In order to maximize the benefits of a study, make sure that your organization:

  • Has a base of constituents – past or current donors, cultivated prospects, alumni, etc.—who can be asked to review and comment on your case for support and share other opinions in confidential interviews with consultants.
  • Has clearly defined funding needs that are the basis for your campaign goal. Today’s donors are investors and want a clear understanding of what the campaign’s impact will be on your organization, mission and community.

A capital campaign should be a transformational undertaking– leading not only to a new facility or stronger endowment, but also enhanced development efforts in the long run. A campaign is a tremendous investment of time and effort, and utilizing the expertise of consultants can help ensure that your effort ultimately meets or exceeds its financial and strategic goals.
